Chase, Holcomb, Utter running for vacant 1st Congressional seat

The special election for Jay Inslee's former seat in Congress finally has its first candidates.

Carin Chase announced on Tuesday that she will be running for the seat in the "old" 1st Congressional District that Inslee vacated to run for governor. The daughter of State Sen. Maralyn Chase, she is currently the chair of the 32nd District Democrats.

A Bainbridge Island man, J. Byron Holcomb, has also filed to run for the seat. He is a lawyer on the island, which will no longer be a part of the district after January. He will also run as a Democrat. Another Democrat, former Lynnwood City Council member Lisa Utter, is collecting signatures so she can be put on the ballot, as well.

She is running to finish Inslee's term in Congress. Whomever wins the special election for Inslee's seat will only serve for a month, as redistricting has created a new 1st Congressional District. Many of the cities that will vote in the special election for Inslee's seat, including Lynnwood, Edmonds, Shoreline, Poulsbo and Mukilteo, will be in new congressional districts for 2013.

In a statement, Chase said that the important thing was that Inslee's seat stay in his party.

Three arrested in Woodinville robbery

Police have arrested three men who allegedly broke into a Woodinville home and attacked two residents with bats and a gun early Monday morning.

Deputies were called to a condo in the 12700 block of Northeast 170th Lane around 3 a.m. after two people inside the home reported the robbery, according to a news release.

One resident was treated at the scene by fire department personnel for a cut to the head.

The robbers made off with drugs, electronics and a small amount of cash before they were arrested in the Monroe area a short time later.

Detectives continue to investigate the robbery, including any possible relationship between the victims and robbers.

There are the cynics, the skeptics, even the non-believers. “People tell me at 55 I’m kind of old to start a career as a singer.” But George Santino says that won't stop him from pursuing his life long passion to perform.

“You do it when you are ready and when you do it you go all out no matter what it is - succeed or fail -  you don’t want to look back and say I could have tried harder or done something different. Give it your all and you’ll have no regrets.”

Santino is proof it’s never too late to follow a dream.

After a 20 year career at Microsoft, including becoming a partner, Santino decided it was time to leave the hi-tech world behind.

“My music career is starting now but I've sung all my life. Starting when I was in first grade at the age of 6 the teachers used to ask me to sing all the time at the school assemblies. My father used to take me all over getting me to sing anywhere there was music,” he said.

Adding his own vocal style, Santino is gearing up for the release of his first album, a series of Frank Sinatra cover songs.

He even started shooting scenes for his upcoming 'vintage-inspired' music video - using The Bravern’s 'John Howie Steak' in Bellevue and 'The Manor' in Everett as his backdrops.

Recently, Santino took the time to answer some questions about the decision to leave Microsoft in pursuit of his music:

Mother's Day means more sun, continues through start of work week

Mother's Day means more sun, continues through start of work week

Happy Mother's Day!

We are in for some wonderful weather for getting outside.

Plan on sunny skies today with highs in the mid-70s to low-80s in many spots.  The warmest areas will be in the south Sound.

The strong ridge of high pressure will stay locked in for Monday with highs rising a few degrees.

Even Tuesday is looking mostly sunny with a few high clouds toward the end of the day.  It isn't until late Wednesday that the ridge breaks down enough to allow a stronger onshore flow to bring us more clouds and cooler temps.  By Thursday morning we could even have some areas of mist.
